The Father Ryan Winter Drumline performed “7 Countries in 7 Minutes” to the Father Ryan student body and received another standing ovation!  The show explores different cultures and musical styles by “visiting” Japan, Ireland, Scotland, Ghana, Spain, France, and the United States. 

A hapless American tourist (G Hartman) boarded a plane and had a series of misadventures in foreign lands. He is pounced on by sumo wrestlers, runs with the bulls in Pamplona, chased by a bull in Spain, he is finally happy to return to the US.

The Winter Drumline achieved their goal of making finals at the WGI World Championships held in Dayton, Ohio. Father Ryan finished in the fourteenth place in the most competitive classification, Percussion Scholastic World Division.

The drumline is under the leadership of band directors Jeff Schletzer, Derek Schletzer, Dustin Schletzer, David England and John Harvill.

EUROPEAN TRIP

Father Ryan’s Winter Drumline went on a two-week trip to Europe -they were the only high school ensemble invited to perform at the IPE (Indoor Percussion Europe) European Championships in Wevelgem, Belgium.  After enthusiastic applause during their warm-up exercises, the students performed the show, then received a standing ovation from the audience followed by a chant for an encore.
      The trip was sponsored through a program with Dynasty USA, a division of DEG Music Products, and Muremo Music, the premier European marching and concert percussion and brass supplies company. In addition to their shows, the percussionists participated in an Indoor Percussion Weekend Clinic in Belgium.
      Between their numerous hours of rehearsal, clinic, performance as well as study halls, the group had some “tourist time” and visited Brugge and Brussels in Belgium, along with Paris and Amsterdam. They toured Anne Frank’s house, viewed “Sunflowers” at the Van Gogh Museum, and learned how Belgium chocolate is made followed by a tasting! 
       The group attended Mass at a cathedral in Zwevegem where the Homily was given in Flemish.  The priest translated part of it for the group in English and told them he hoped we would enjoy the cold, rainy Belgium weather.
